Letting Go of Control
“Your job isn't to be the Savior—it’s to follow the Savior.”
There’s a quiet struggle many Christian women face—one that hides behind color-coded calendars, tidy homes, meal plans, and to-do lists. It's the internal weight of trying to manage it all, hold everything together, and somehow be everything for everyone. I think I might be a trophy winner in this sad mothering race. It’s a daily struggle for me- feeling constantly burdened by the mental load of doing it all. Control gives me/us the illusion of safety. And yet, as followers of Christ, we’re called to let it go.
But here's the truth we don’t talk about enough: we underestimate how much courage it takes to actually release our desire to fix everything and make the choice to fix our eyes on Jesus.
Letting go of control is not giving up. It’s about stepping into a deep and daring faith—the kind of faith that trusts God's way is better, even when it doesn’t make sense in the moment.
The Illusion of Control
As women, especially as mamas and wives, it often feels like it's our job to keep the world around us from falling apart. We problem-solve, we plan, we anticipate needs before they arise. This is a beautiful part of how God designed us—but when our strength becomes rooted in self-sufficiency rather than Christ-dependency, it slowly begins to unravel our peace, turning us into an anxious, less-joyful version of ourselves.
God Doesn’t Need Our Perfection—He Wants Our Surrender
In Proverbs 3:5-6, we're reminded:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Notice it doesn’t say to trust Him only when you understand, or only when things are going smoothly. It says to submit to Him in all your ways—which means daily decisions, reactions, relationships, and responsibilities.
It means inviting Him into your morning routine, your parenting, your work, your conversations, your schedule. It means asking, “God, what do You want this to look like today?” before rushing into our own solutions.
Letting Go Isn’t Failing—It’s Freeing
When we let go of control, we make room for God to move. We give Him space to lead, correct, strengthen, and bless. And as we loosen our grip, we find that our identity isn't in what we manage—it's in who we belong to.
There’s peace in surrender. There’s purpose in rest. And there is tremendous strength in the woman who says, “Jesus, I trust You more than I trust myself.”
Remember, sweet friend: Your job isn't to be the Savior—it’s to follow the Savior. Let go. Lean in. And watch how God transforms your days when you release them into His hands.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, I confess that I often hold tightly to things You’re asking me to release. Help me surrender my plans, my worries, and my desire to fix everything. Remind me that You are in control—and that is the safest place I can rest. Give me the courage to fix my eyes on You today and follow where You lead. Amen.
