Nacho Average Cinco De Mayo Party

“Nachos are just tacos that don’t have their life together.”

Nacho Average Cinco de Mayo Party: A DIY Guide to the Ultimate Fiesta! 🌮🎉

If you’re looking for a party idea that’s equal parts delicious, hilarious, and unforgettable, let me introduce you to our Nacho Average Cinco de Mayo Party—a festive mash-up of nachos, hot sauce, balloon-powered games, and enough toppings to make your tastebuds salsa.

Here’s the full scoop so you can recreate this flavorful fiesta with your own flair!

🌶 Nacho Bar Magic

We took our nacho game seriously—and by seriously, I mean we gave guests options. Our spread included:

Chips, chips, and more chips:

  • Nacho cheddar

  • Blue corn

  • Strips and triangles—because chip shape matters!

Proteins galore:

  • Seasoned ground beef (1 lb per 6 guests)

  • Shredded chicken

  • Crockpot queso with Rotel (easy, cheesy perfection)

  • Black beans (also crockpot style for low-effort serving)

Toppings for days:

  • Raw diced onion

  • Diced tomatoes

  • Corn

  • Shredded cheese

  • Green onions

  • Green chili sauce

  • Cilantro

  • Guacamole

  • Sour cream

  • Jalapeños

  • ALL the salsas (salsa verde, Mateo’s, and a fresh one from Costco)

🍨 Dessert Nacho Bar? Yes, Please.

We kept the nacho theme rolling into dessert with a sweet twist:

Dessert Chip Options:

  • Cinnamon sugar tortilla chips

  • Thin Oreos

  • Thin Chips Ahoy cookies

  • Pretzel crisps

  • Graham crackers

Toppings that made everyone swoon:

  • Warm hot fudge and dulce de leche (thank you, mini crockpots!)

  • Mini chocolate chips

  • Whipped cream

  • Chopped nuts

  • Sprinkles

  • Shredded coconut

🌶 Hot Sauce Bar

This was a spicy crowd-pleaser. We asked guests to bring a bottle of their favorite hot sauce to contribute to the bar. When they arrived, they labeled their bottle under one of three categories:

  • Mild / Why Bother?

  • Medium

  • DEATH 🔥

We had a bowl of round tortilla chips nearby so people could sample sauces throughout the night and top their plates of nachos—and yes, some brave souls tried every single one.

🍹 Sips & Style

We served margaritas in the most festive cactus-shaped glasses I scooped up from Dollar Tree years ago (pro tip: never pass up novelty glassware), and Jarritos Mexican Sodas to lean into the holiday theme.

And of course, no party is complete without photo ops. We set up a makeshift booth with a black tablecloth backdrop, sombreros, and Cinco de Mayo props for guests to get goofy.

At the end of the night, we also hosted a tequila tasting. We provided five kinds of tequila, including blanco, joven, reposado, añejo and extra añejo, and asked guests to describe using this tequila flavor wheel from Academia Patron and rate each tequila’s quality on a 1-5 point system (1 being the lowest). Was a fun, chill way to end the evening!

🎈 The Game: Tortilla Chip Balloon Relay

Yes, it’s as ridiculous—and amazing—as it sounds. But ALL of our parties include a tournament, so here’s the scoop on this one:

How it worked:

  • Guests signed up in pairs for a head-to-head tournament.

  • Each team stood on opposite ends of a long table.

  • One person blew up a balloon and used it to send a tortilla chip skimming across the table to their teammate, who had to catch it and repeat.

  • If the chip flew off the table? Game over.

  • First team to complete a full pass and return wins the round!

Prize: The final champions got to whack open a tequila bottle-shaped piñata filled with…you guessed it: mini tequila bottles and hot sauce packets.

Want to host your own Nacho Average Party?
Do it! It's easy to pull together with crockpots, a sense of humor, and a whole lot of chips. Your guests will be talking about it for years (or at least until next Cinco de Mayo).

So grab your sombrero, your spiciest sauce, and your balloon-powered breath—because this “nacho ordinary party” is going to be a blast to re-create! 🎈🌮🔥
